The installation was intended to offer refugees a welcoming signal and influence the new traffic light coalition to take action on the refugee crisis.

Deputy chairwoman of 'Wir packen's an' explained that the green lanterns had been used in the restricted border zone by homeowners to identify their houses as a safe place for refugees.
