The Ukrainian leader said he had a phone conversation with Iranian President Hassan Rouhani, where they agreed to return the bodies of the victims to Ukraine “as soon as possible.”
“We agreed that no one will escape responsibility,” he emphasized.
Speaking of an investigation, Zelensky said the international team is “trying to rebuild the plane.”
Ukrainian experts were provided access to “the remains of the plane, FDR, radar records and dispatcher memos from the flight control centre,” he confirmed. The President went on to say that the criminal case was opened by the Office of the Prosecutor General.
He promised the victims’ families to return the bodies and “bid a proper farewell” and the citizens to bring back the confidence “that Ukraine will always protect you in any corner of the planet.”
Earlier on Saturday, Iran's military admitted "unintentionally" shooting down the Ukrainian International Airlines (UIA) flight PS752, killing all 176 people on board, on Wednesday. According to IRGC Aerospace Force Brigadier General Amir Ali Hajizadeh, the Iranian air defence systems erroneously identified the passenger jet "as a cruise missile."
