US President-elect Joe Biden unveiled his picks for his cabinet in Wilmington on Tuesday, whereby he nominated Antony Blinken to become the next US secretary of state.
"Tony's been one of my closest and most trusted advisors. I know him and his family, immigrants, and refugees, a Holocaust survivor, who taught him never to take for granted the very idea of America as a place of possibilities," said Biden while announcing Blinken's appointment, adding, "Tony is ready on day one."
Blinken thanked Biden, saying that working for him and having him 'as a mentor and friend, has been the greatest privilege' of his professional life.
Blinken went on thanking his family that, with a history of members escaping wars and surviving the Holocaust, imprinted on him the idea that America meant safety and 'the last best hope on earth' for them.
Blinken was the former deputy secretary of state during the Obama administration, but his career at the State Department started under former president Clinton.
