Social Democratic Party (SPD) chancellor candidate Olaf Scholz said that the good exit poll results for his party show that voters want a political change in government, at the SPD's election night party in Berlin on Sunday.
“[It] is a mandate to ensure that everything that was discussed in this election and what we have proposed will also be implemented and we will politically stand up for it,” said Scholz.
He thanked party members for their support during the election campaign and vowed to show 'pragmatism, confidence, and unity.'
The party has worked for industrial modernisation, respect in society, and climate protection and will continue to fight for these goals, according to Scholz.
In the current projections by the ARD, the Union is at 24.5 percent behind the SPD, on 25.5 percent, and ahead of the Green Party on 13.8 percent.
