Black dye stained the stone facade of the Bank of England headquarters in London on Thursday after protesters sprayed the building during a demonstration.

Extinction Rebellion demonstrators had sprayed the building with a black substance before fleeing, as they protested against what they claimed was the bank’s involvement in the oil industry.

Cleaners equipped with brooms and jet washers could be seen cleaning up the damage outside the building. Police officers supervised the cleaning works from across the street.

The environmental movement Extinction Rebellion dubbed the protest a 'Money Rebellion' aiming to expose the role of banks in the climate crisis.
