The presiding officer at the Georgia's Democratic electors meeting, Stacey Abrams, announced that US President-elect Joe Biden had received the state's 16 electoral college votes, after the ballots were officially submitted at the state Capitol in Atlanta, on Monday.

"It is for them, the people of Georgia, that I say today that we are electors but we are also servants, servants of a better Georgia, servants of a better future and servants of the United States of America. we will now cast our ballots for the president of the United States," presiding officer Stacey Abrams stated during the Georgia electors meeting, before announcing the results.

Later the same day Biden topped 270 electoral votes needed to cement his presidency reaching 302 votes against Trump's 232.

Biden will become the 46th president of the United States when he is sworn in on January 20.
