Dozens of police officers dispersed a group of protesters in Hong Kong, on Friday, as they paid their respects to a fellow demonstrator who fell to his death last year.
Protesters can be seen laying flowers and lighting candles in memory of Marco Leung, otherwise known as 'Raincoat Man', who fell to his death during anti-government protests in June of 2019. A group of at least a dozen police officers wearing face masks came to disperse the demonstrators, saying they violated a law prohibiting group gatherings.
Last year, Hong Kong saw the largest protest movement in its history, which started with opposition to a now-scrapped plan to allow extraditions to mainland China before evolving into an overall anti-government demonstration.
The protest movement united activists calling for more autonomy and an investigation into alleged police brutality, with demonstrations temporarily stopping at the beginning of 2020 due to the coronavirus outbreak.
