٠٠:٠٣:١٢The ski jumping hill at Beijing’s Big Air Shougang stadium was covered in Snow on Wednesday, ahead of the 2022 Winter Olympic Games.
"We officially started the snow makers on the 10th of December. A cold snap hit Beijing and made the temperature fall below zero degrees [Celsius] (32 degrees Fahrenheit), which matched the conditions of snow making,” explained Han Dong, a spokesperson for the Winter Games.
“We have made 15,000 cubic meters (53,000 cubic feet) of snow," added Han.
The stadium is located next to a former steel mill formerly operated by the Shougang Group.
"We decided to make the Big Air Shougang into a permanent ski jumping venue. We have considered its usage after the Olympics, as ski jumping is an extreme sport and the audiences are very limited,” explained Pan Xiaozhi, Communications centre manager for the Winter Games.
“We can modify the angle of the trail and switch it into a venue for other winter games,” added Pan.
The 2022 Winter Games are set to take place between November 4 and 20.
