03:09Dozens of protesters assembled outside London’s Downing Street on Saturday in support of migrants and refugees following a deadly Channel crossing attempt by a migrant boat earlier in the week.
The migrant boat began to deflate during the crossing attempt on Wednesday, resulting in the death of 27 of its occupants. Only two people managed to survive the incident, which is believed to be one of the deadliest of its kind in recent years.
Protesters chanted slogans such as, ‘Say it loud and it say it clear, refugees are welcome here,’ and held signs reading ‘Refugees are welcome here,’ and ‘Their blood is on your hands.’
“Well, this government doesn’t care. I think they are totally lacking compassion, and I think they let happily people die; they just want the problem to be somebody else’s, they just want to push it away as if they don’t accept that there is, there has to be a safe route to apply for asylum in the UK,” explained Kay, a protester,.
