Londoners shared their reactions on Thursday after the UK government and the EU came to an agreement on their post-Brexit trade and security relationship.

One local speculated that the Christmas Eve timing of the announcement was intentional.

"Maybe we've left it to the last minute to get a bit of political theatre, kind of like a Christmas ending?" he wondered.

Another man said that while "the idea of a deal is a good one," he thought "the idea that it has to go through 49 different parliaments in Europe is a bit crazy," although the EU only has 27 member states.

Earlier in the day, UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson said the agreement, which is some 2,000 pages in length, was a 'comprehensive, Canada-style free trade deal.'

The agreement still requires approval from the 27 remaining EU states, as well as the UK parliament, and will then be applied on a provisional basis from January 1, with the European Parliament set to vote on it in January 2021.
