Protests against Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan continued in Yerevan’s Baghramyan Avenue on Thursday evening, as hundreds of demonstrators blocked the avenue and set up tents in front of the parliament building.
Protesters were seen using garbage bins and benches next to the tents which had been set up earlier, while police, in turn, cordoned off the building.
Opposition parties called on protesters to keep demonstrating until the parliament gathers for an extraordinary session on the impeachment of Pashinyan.
Earlier today Pashinyan denounced the army statement on his resignation as an 'attempted military coup.' He also asked his supporters to gather for a rally in central Yerevan and was later seen taking to the streets with them.
The prime minister has faced calls to resign after he signed the Russian-brokered deal to end fighting between Azerbaijan and Armenian forces in the disputed region of Nagorno-Karabakh in November last year.
Under the terms of the trilateral agreement, a number of Nagorno-Karabakh districts came under Azerbaijani control.
