Description

The Kurdish community of Paris marched through the French capital on Saturday to protest the Turkish military operation in northern Syria.

Protesters were seen waving Kurdish flags, chanting slogans against the Turkish state, and performing the Kurdish traditional dance.

"Thanks to our friend here and yesterday in Italy and in Catalonia, everywhere. The world is standing with Rojava. Rojava resists for us, Rojava resists for you." Berivan Firat, member of the Kurdish Democratic Council in France said.

Protests took place in several European cities under the slogan "World Resistance Day" to show solidarity with the Kurdish movement and denounce Turkey's actions.

Ankara's military offensive, dubbed 'Operation Peace Spring', began on October 9 with the stated aim of creating a 'safe zone' in north-eastern Syria by removing Kurdish forces, which Turkey regards as terrorists.

Turkey agreed to halt the assault and has now struck a deal with Russia over the conditions for the safe zone. Both sides will carry out joint border patrols while the Russian military will help facilitate the removal of Kurdish militia from the area.
