Description

Clashes broke out again in East Jerusalem's Sheikh Jarrah neighbourhood on Thursday, after police arrested protesters, prompting confrontations with residents and journalists covering the events.

Journalists can be seen being kicked and pushed around by police officers while protesters are detained and taken into custody. More officers later surrounding the group of protesters who responded with chants and slogans.

Faced with an eviction threat, dozens of neighbourhood residents have been organising sit-ins over the past several days in the area.

The threat follows a recent verdict by the Jerusalem District Court which ruled that at least six families in the area must leave their homes in Sheikh Jarrah in upcoming weeks, despite having lived in the neighbourhood for generations.

The court also ruled that seven other families must leave their homes by August 1. 58 local residents, including 17 children, are expected to be displaced in the process to make way for new settlements in the neighbourhood.
