US President-elect Joe Biden unveiled his future health care team to lead the response to the coronavirus pandemic during a press conference held from Wilmington, Delaware, on Tuesday.
Biden announced California Attorney General Xavier Becerra as his nominee for secretary of health and human services while Anthony Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) was named chief medical adviser on the virus.
"It is a team of world class experts, at the top of their fields, crisis-tested, defined by a deep sense of duty, honour and patriotism," Biden described
"They are going to be ready in day one to spare not a single effort to get this pandemic under control," he added.
The number of COVID cases have rocketed in the US in the recent weeks. The country is the world worst-hit nation with over 15 million confirmed cases and more than 286,000 deaths with the virus according to Johns Hopkins University
