Description

The Kent village of Sevington was seen being prepared to be turned into the UK's border with the European Union. The building site of a future customs clearance depot was filmed in the area on Monday.

The depot will reportedly be able to accommodate up to 2,000 trucks.

"I just think it's a real shame on the local environment: we've got enough here already and I just don't think it's needed. And I don't think for 2,000 trucks it's going to really touch anything anyway. Because there are more trucks than that, so it's insignificant because it's still not going to cope," said one of the locals.

Another resident, Rachelle, explained her shock at the planning decision as local residents had not reportedly been informed about the works, "Quite honestly it comes as quite a shock, I haven't heard anything about it since it's been planned. So it seems that it just came out of the blue, especially for those who are actually living in the village."

The Kent county voted by roughly 60%-40% to leave the EU back in 2016.
