Chairman of the SPD parliamentary group in the Bundestag Rolf Mutzenich announced the news in a press briefing at the SPD headquarters in Berlin on Tuesday.
"The Greens and FDP have been invited already in this week if they wish to begin coalition talks," Mutzenich stated.
"We see that some parties are more concerned than others of which seats they can take in the government. I think we should focus as the task at hand. We are ready to head talks," He added.
"I believe the citizenry wants a government quickly and the majority of them want one our Olaf Scholz," Mutzenich said, noting not only the SPD's overall victory but the general popularity of Olaf Scholz in polling for the chancellor position.
The SPD looks to form a coalition with the Greens and FDP, the three parties who had substantial gains in Sunday's federal election.
The market-liberal FDP's stern approach towards taking control of the finance ministry could serve a problem for forming a coalition with the centre-left SPD.
