Description

Finance Minister and Vice Chancellor Olaf Scholz said he was "quite sure" that Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny was poisoned with Novichok, while speaking in the Bundestag in Berlin on Wednesday.

Scholz condemned the "assassination attempt" saying

that "is a serious crime and we are quite sure that this attack was committed with poison from the Novichok group. We cannot tolerate that. The citizens' freedom is an universal right and everywhere people should be allowed to express their minds and also to stand in opposition to governments without having their life threatened for that.''

''But for us, what arises from what we know if it is that consequences need to be drawn. And that's why is it important to demand from the Russian government to work together, to clarify, to work together by the disclosure of this crime and we await still the necessary clarification and assistance. And it is also important that we decided that we want to react to that together with our European partner,'' he added.

He was also questioned on the government reactions on Moria refugee fire and on the Nord Stream 2 project.
