Description

Caracas residents were seen voting Saturday in a 'popular consultation' called by opposition leader Juan Guaido, where citizens were asked whether or not to reject the legislative elections held on December 6.

People were seen gathering and casting their votes in the Bolivar de Chacao and Los Palosrandes squares, located in east Caracas.

"There are no new elected deputies, this is the key. They are illegal and unconstitutional," Guaido told reporters in Bolivar de Chacao square. "What will happen is exactly the same thing that happened on May 20, 2018, when Maduro was not recognised."

Sunday's legislative polls saw President Nicolas Maduro and his ruling United Socialist Party claim control of the National Assembly, the last opposition controlled institution in the country, amid a boycott of the opposition. Guaido has dubbed the election a 'fraud.'
