A group of European Union delegates, including the EU envoy to the West Bank and Gaza visited the Sheikh Jarrah neighbourhood in East Jerusalem, on Monday.
Head of the mission Sven Kuhn von Burgsdorff called on Israel to call off the eviction of Palestinian families as he visited the house of one of the families threatened to lose their homes.
"For us for the European Union and partner and they are many here today, these settlements are illegal in international law and this is occupied territory in east Jerusalem. These people have full right to live here," von Burgsdorff said, adding that the EU is committed "to building the foundations of a Palestine state."
The Sheikh Jarrah neighbourhood has become a strong point of contention as Israeli and Palestinian locals have contested the ownership of properties in the East Jerusalem neighbourhood.
