"People of Palestine, people of Arab and Islamic nations, free people in the world, I proudly declare to you this great victory achieved by the brave resistance,” said Haniyeh.
“It is a historic turn and a significant turning point that all concerned people, Israeli decision-makers as well as observers inside and outside the region shall clearly identify. That is why our dead people, resistance, and supporters shall prepare themselves for what comes after ‘Operations Al-Quds Sword’ in all sense of the word,” he continued.
Haniyeh called on Islamic countries to show ‘more cohesion,’ before thanking Egpyt, Qatar, and the UN for assisting in reaching a ceasefire.
The Hamas chief also thanked Iran for providing ‘financial aid, weapons, and technology.’
Events began to escalate nearly a fortnight ago over the planned eviction of Palestinian families from the Sheikh Jarrah neighbourhood of Jerusalem before spiralling into a deadly exchange of fire between Gaza and Israel.
The conflict led to over 240 fatalities on the Palestinian side and 12 on the Israeli side, according to the respective authorities.
The ceasefire between Israel and Palestinian groups came into force on Friday (23:00 GMT, Thursday).
