Manufacturer (German): "Ah, that really varies."

Angela Merkel, German Chancellor (German): "Yes, but when you sit together tomorrow with the automobile industry, you need to know what it costs!"

German Chancellor Angela Merkel and US President Barack Obama tried out some of the technology on show at the Hannover Messe, after the opening ceremony, on Monday.

Both the leaders put on virtual reality goggles, shaking hands to see the effect through this new technology. Seemingly fascinated, Obama and Merkel had a lot of questions for manufacturers who were exhibiting everything from the latest models of 3D printers to ports for electric cars.

The Hannover Messe is one of the largest industrial trade show in the world and one of the premier event platforms to spark international business opportunities. The United States is the official partner country of this year's trade show, which will showcase the latest technology from over 6,000 different exhibitors to around 200,000 visitors.
