Description

The Chairperson of Gemany's ruling party Annegret Kramp-Karrenbauer blamed herself for her party's weak showing in the EU elections during a press conference in Berlin on Monday.

"First of all are my personal mistakes, I want to put it straight at the beginning," she said.

The CDU did not perform as expected, making it the worst results the party has ever had in European elections as well as domestically.

Kramp-Karrenbauer also said that the election was lost among young people, who the party failed to appeal to, and a perceived shift towards the right.

The CDU and its ally CSU came first in Germany's EU elections with around 28 percent of the vote, which is down some seven points on the previous campaign in 2014.
