Description

Striking more gender balance in top EU positions following recent parliamentary elections was the personal plan and ambition of the President of the European Council, Donald Tusk, as he took to the podium following the informal dinner of EU heads of state in Brussels on Tuesday.

"Gender balance means at least two women. If it is possible," said Tusk, as he acknowledged the difficulties of striking such a balance.

Tusk furthermore hailed Europe as the true winner of EU parliamentary elections, signalling Brexit as a cautionary tale for Euro-sceptics.

"Brexit has been a vaccine against anti-EU propaganda and fake news," proclaimed Tusk.

Following the EU Parliament elections, Tusk is now tasked with finding names for the head of the European Commission, the head of the European Central Bank, the EU's high representative, and his own job as the European Council president.
