Description

A rescue ship carrying 306 refugees docked in the port of Augusta in Sicily, Thursday, after spending nine days waiting at sea.

"The more than 300 people rescued by the Ocean Viking in recent days finally touched down, they are now waiting for a safe haven. Among them there are many vulnerable people, there are minors about twenty accompanied children who have faced a difficult journey made even more complex by marine conditions", said Giovanna di Benedetto, spokesperson of the NGO Save the Children.

Led by Doctors Without Borders amongst other organisations, the Ocean Viking has been operating under the Norwegian flag to rescue migrants and refugees that try to cross the Mediterranean Sea under dangerous conditions.
