US President Joe Biden criticised the leaders of China and Russia for not attending the COP26 climate summit in a speech in Glasgow on Tuesday.
"I think, it has been a big mistake, quite frankly, for China not showing up. The rest of the world, when they look at China and say: 'What values are they providing?' They lost influence around the world and all the people here at COP. The same way I would argue with regard to Russia," Biden said.
Neither Russian President Vladimir Putin nor Chinese leader Xi Jinping attended the summit, but both countries sent delegations to the talks, which were scheduled to run for a fortnight until 14 November.
China has been considered the world's largest carbon dioxide emitter, followed by the US, with Russia in 5th place after the EU and India.
