Description

German Chancellor Angela Merkel joined her would-be successor Armin Laschet at a rainy election campaign rally in Stralsund on Tuesday.

Merkel said that the Christian Democratic Union (CDU) stood for security and stressed that Laschet would continue to stand for it.

She added that a 'lot was at stake' in the election on Sunday, saying "It is a question of whether the course is still set, that we let moderation and the centre prevail."

Stralsund is the constituency Merkel has represented for more than 30 years. The chancellor praised the interaction between the federal government and the region, saying that an "incredible amount has been achieved" since 2005, adding that Laschet shall "continue this course."

Germany's general election takes place on Sunday, September 26.
