Description

A commemoration event followed by an anti-racism protest dedicated to the victims of the Hanau shooting attack took place on Friday, a year after the attack, in Hanau.

People were seen holding portraits of the victims, as well as wearing T-shirts depicting the deceased.

"Exactly one year ago our beautiful city of Hanau was thrown off balance by a hideous act. It was the terror act committed by an alleged lunatic individual, this is what municipal authorities are still trying to sell to us. But what had really happened in Hanau? On the night of the crime, Tobias R. was selectively shooting at people of foreign origin in several places. Nine young migrants lost their lives on this occasion," said local Antifa activist Nazim Turan.

"These people were not just our friends and acquaintance. Dear friends, they were Hanau citizens," he added.

"The list of right-wing terrorist attacks is so long that this pattern emerges as the reality. Clarification is definitely not taking place. At least not in the true meaning of the word: truthfully and broadly," deplored Turan.

On February 19, a 43-year-old German citizen Tobias R. from Hanau opened fire outside a shisha bar at Heumarkt district, driving off to a second location in Kesselstadt district, where he opened fire again. The double shooting left 10 people dead, with five injured, before the perpetrator and his 72-year-old mother were found dead at his address.
