Description

Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and Head of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Rafael Grossi discussed the situation around the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant at the 77th session of the UN General Assembly in New York on Wednesday.

According to the Russian Foreign Ministry's press service, Lavrov reiterated Moscow's intention to continue close co-operation with the IAEA to 'force the Kiev regime to immediately stop shelling the plant and surrounding territories' during the meeting.

Moscow and Kiev have accused each other of attacking the facility which has been under Russian control since March.

Grossi led an IAEA mission to the plant earlier this month, but his report did not apportion blame.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has repeatedly called for Russian forces to withdraw from the area.
