Russian President Vladimir Putin urged 'not to flatter oneself by reducing negative rhetoric' on the eve of his meeting with US President Joe Biden during an interview for the "Moscow. Kremlin. Putin" TV show aired by state broadcaster Rossiya-1 on Sunday.

“In the run-up to the summit meetings, both sides always try to reduce some negative rhetoric in order to create an appropriate favourable environment for work. There is nothing special here. I would not delude myself with anything here. Well, this is what I say so, a professional approach. This means that we, for our part, are also doing this. Although we have tried to behave with sufficient restraint before," Putin stressed.

Answering the question about the new accusations of the Kremlin in cyberattacks by the United States, Putin said that Russia "has not and has never had anything to do with this." Regarding the US calls for engagement on cybersecurity, he noted that the degree of mutual obligations will depend on the agreements reached.

"If we agree on extradition criminals, which means that Russia, of course, will agree to this, and we will do it, only if the other side, in this case, the United States, agrees to the same and will extradite the criminals corresponding to the Russian Federation," the president said.

Vladimir Putin also noted the presence of a number of topics of mutual interest for both countries, including issues of strategic stability, the resolution of regional conflicts, and economic cooperation.

"Many American companies want to work in our country. They are being pulled out of our market by the ears, they are giving way to competitors. Is this really beneficial to the American economy? In general, there is something to talk about. And there are such common themes. If after this meeting we create mechanisms for working in all these areas, I think it would be good, one could say that the meeting was not in vain," Putin said.

US President Joe Biden on Sunday at a press conference at the end of the G7 summit said that the US is not seeking a conflict with Russia, adding that relations between the countries have reached a "low point."

The meeting of the Presidents of Russia and the United States is scheduled for June 16 in Geneva at the Villa La Grange.
