Description

A Palestinian motorist rammed their vehicle into an Israeli checkpoint in East Jerusalem on Sunday. The motorist was shot in an act of defence by Israeli police and seven officers have been injured as a result of the incident in the neighbourhood of Sheikh Jarrah.

The neighbourhood of Sheikh Jarrah has been at the heart of escalating tensions between Israel and Palestine as a result of plans to evict Palestinian families from the area.

Abu Ubaida, a spokesperson for Hamas, praised the motorist's act as a 'heroic and daring operation'.

In recent days rockets fired from Gaza have killed 10 people in Israel, two of which have been children, while a campaign of Israeli airstrikes has killed nearly 200 people, including 58 children.
