Description

Thousands demonstrated against Sebastian Pinera's government on Tuesday in Santiago.

Footage shows demonstrators marching with banners, flags and giant dolls, including a giant effigy of Chilean singer-songwriter Victor Jara featured in previous protests. There were also clashes between the demonstrators and police who used water cannons and tear gas to disperse them.

The protests were triggered in October by the now-suspended metro fare hike and fuelled by frustration with Pinera's policies and perceived rising inequality.

Since then, the demonstrations have become a movement with broader demands against the rise in the cost of living, pension reform, and police brutality during demonstrations.
