The parents of USA women's national football team midfielders, Samantha Mewis and Lindsay Horan, spoke in Le Havre on Thursday, about how they lived through and celebrated their daughters' first goals for the national team at the Women's World Cup, in the 13-0 win against Thailand.

Bob Mewis, father of USA midfielder Samantha Mewis, said, "There was a lot of tension in the air, every time Samantha touched the ball we were excited and wondering if this was the moment or not, and when she finally did score, all that tension was relieved all of a sudden, it was just an amazing sense of relief."

Linda Mewis, the mother of Samantha Mewis, said of her daughter's beginnings, "Sam just wanted to really just kick the ball and go towards the net. So right away she was a little different."

Mark Horan, father of USA midfielder Lindsey Horan, said of his daughter's first World Cup goal, "We were so ecstatic, that was her first goal in a World Cup game, and..."

Linda Horan, mother of USA midfielder Lindsey Horan, added, "Just being on stage at the World Cup and then scoring. It was the ultimate... So exciting. [We are] just very proud of her."

Both the parents of Mewis and Horan came in the public spotlight after a video from the match against Thailand, which shows the parents celebrating, was seen over 134.000 times on Twitter.
