Russian President Vladimir Putin described the negotiations with his US counterpart Joe Biden as constructive during a press conference after the bilateral meeting in Geneva on Wednesday.

"There was no animosity. <...>We both demonstrated the willingness to understand each other and search for a convergence of views", he said.

Answering a journalist's question, Russian leader stressed that opposition figure Alexei Navalny deliberately came back to Russia to be detained, after returning from Germany, where he was being treated after alleged 'poisoning'.

He also mentioned that US activities were aimed at containing Russia's development.

"The United States declared Russia its enemy and adversary. Congress did this in 2017. Now let's ask ourselves a question: if Russia is an enemy, what kind of organisations will the US support in Russia? I think that not those that strengthen the Russian Federation, but those that are holding it back. And this goal the United States stated publicly", Putin said.
