Description

Police deployed water canons and arrested several protesters outside Jerusalem's Old City, on Sunday, as protests continued for a third night against possible Palestinian evictions from Sheikh Jarrah neighbourhood.

Police arrested several protesters and fired water cannons to disperse them. while protesters shouted at police and threw projectiles.

According to reports dozens of protesters were injured in today's clashes, with hundreds injured over the past few days.

The Israeli Justice Ministry has postponed tomorrow's hearing on possible evictions due to the clashes.

Earlier this year an Israeli district court ruled that several Palestinian families were to be evicted from their homes in the Sheikh Jarrah neighbourhood, on the basis that Jews had owned the land on which they had been built prior to 1948. The veracity of the documents used to demonstrate these claims is contested by lawyers representing Palestinian residents.
