Description

Several thousands of pro-Palestinian protesters rallied in Jordan, near the border with the West Bank in the Sweimeh region, to celebrate the ceasefire between Hamas and Israel, on Friday.

Protesters were seen waving Palestinian, Jordanian, and Muslim Brotherhood flags while chanting slogans.

Events began to escalate nearly a fortnight ago over the planned eviction of Palestinian families from the Sheikh Jarrah neighbourhood of Jerusalem before spiralling into a deadly exchange of fire between Gaza and Israel.

The conflict led to over 240 fatalities on the Palestinian side and 12 on the Israeli side, according to the respective authorities.

The ceasefire between Israel and Palestinian groups came into force on Friday (23:00 GMT, Thursday).
