Indian sand artists Sudharshan Pattnaik congratulated former US President and Republican candidate Donald Trump on his victory in the US presidential election following the preliminary results with a sand sculpture of Trump's face in Odisha, Wednesday.
Footage shows Pattnaik and his team making the colourful sculpture of Trump with the US flag in the background and text reading: 'Donald Trump' and 'Congratulations'. Passers-by could be seen gazing at the piece and taking photos of it.
"The whole world was anxiously waiting for the new president of the United States. Finally, today, it was declared that Donald Trump is the president. We have created this sand sculpture to welcome him through our art," Pattnaik said.
He also noted that Trump 'loves India and Indians a lot', and recalled his previous visit to the country when the sand artists team also "welcomed him by creating a sand sculpture with the message 'Namaste Trump'."
"I want to convey my best wishes to Mr Trump for being the elected president. I would also like to convey my best wishes to India and Odisha. I would like to extend my best wishes on behalf of India. Congratulations," proclaimed Ankita Kasa, a tourist, admiring the 'beautiful art of Donald Trump'.
The sculpture is 4.5 metres (15 feet) long and reportedly made of 5 tonnes of sand.
At the time of publication, US media reported that Trump is projected to win the election with at least 295 electoral college votes - with Harris trailing on 226. The margin of victory could be higher, with Trump leading in many of the states yet to declare.
Opponent Kamala Harris conceded to the Republican presidential candidate on Wednesday evening, stating that they 'must accept the results of this election'.
The election, held under the electoral college system, requires candidates to pick up electoral votes, with the number assigned to each state equal to the number of senators (2) and house representatives - which are based on population. All except Maine and Nebraska operate a 'winner takes all' system based on the state's popular vote, while 270 of the 538 total are needed to win.
All 435 seats in the House of Representatives and 34 of 100 Senate seats are also up for election, with the GOP projected to win a majority in both at the time of publication.
