Israeli warplanes launched a series of airstrikes on the southern suburbs of Beirut after the IDF issued evacuation warnings to residents on Wednesday.
Footage shows plumes of smoke billowing in the sky of the Lebanese capital as airstrikes hit the region.
According to Lebanese media, the neighbourhoods of Haret Hreik, Lailaki and Burj al-Barajneh were targeted in the attack. Additionally an airstrike reportedly struck an area next to the Beirut airport. Air traffic was not affected.
The IDF announced that their forces had "struck Hezbollah targets in the Dahieh area of Beirut."
"In an intelligence-based strike, the IAF struck command centers, weapons storage facilities, and terrorist infrastructure in the Dahieh area of Beirut," their statement added.
In the Bekaa region, the governor of Baalbek al-Hermel reported that 30 people were killed and 35 others were injured following 20 airstrikes targeting several villages in the region.
This comes after Hezbollah fired rockets at several areas in northern and central Israel on Wednesday. Several injuries were reported as a result of shrapnel and a rush to shelters.
The Israeli military confirmed that about 25 rockets were fired from southern Lebanon toward Haifa Bay and the Galilee in the afternoon, bringing the total to 150 rockets fired on Wednesday.
Israel has conducted a ground incursion into parts of southern Lebanon, as well as an ongoing campaign of airstrikes on Hezbollah targets over the past month. Lebanon's Ministry of Health stated that 3,013 have been killed and over 13,553 injured at time of publication.
The current escalation between Israel and Hezbollah began last month with explosions of wireless communications devices used by Hezbollah, which killed dozens and injured thousands. The sides have exchanged cross-border strikes since the outbreak of the 2023 Gaza war.
