Russian Security Council Secretary Sergei Shoigu described the BRICS group as an 'innovative, popular format for interstate development' at a meeting of high-ranking representatives of the BRICS and BRICS+ countries in St Petersburg on Wednesday.
"Over the years, our association has proven to be an innovative and popular format for interstate development based on equal dialogue, respect for the choice of one’s own development path and consideration of each other’s interests in the collective search for solutions to global problems," Shoigu said.
The Russian Security Council secretary also stated that the BRICS countries made a significant contribution to global security.
"Today, a number of Western countries are imposing a so-called rule-based order on the world community. Moreover, the very process of the emergence of such rules contradicts the essence of international law and erodes its foundations. Such an erosion of the entire international system is undoubtedly a threat to sovereign countries," the diplomat stressed.
The meeting of representatives of BRICS and BRICS+ countries is taking place in St. Petersburg on September 10-12.
