Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov stated that the growing influence and progressive policies of African nations have made the continent well-positioned to help tackle global challenges, during his address at Russia-Africa Partnership Forum in Sirius Federal Territory on Sunday.
"African countries enjoy growing prestige on the world stage. By pursuing a constructive and peace-loving foreign policy, they are playing an increasingly important role in addressing critical issues on the international agenda," the diplomat said.
Meanwhile, Mauritanian Foreign Minister Mohamed Salem Ould Merzoug said that the Forum took place at a 'time when the world is facing momentous challenges', and urged participants to unite and act swiftly.
"We, as the international community, must take the initiative in managing decisions so that the situation does not worsen. We can do this through joint efforts and strengthening co-operation based on multipolarity, on co-operation among countries, on solving political problems," he concluded.
The first ministerial conference of the Russia-Africa Partnership Forum is taking place from November 9 to 10. The event features 19 panel sessions covering pressing issues related to political, economic, and humanitarian co-operation. Over 1,500 attendees, including 40 ministers from 23 African countries, have confirmed their participation in the conference.
