Description

Moscow residents witnessed the rare blue supermoon in the sky on Wednesday.

Footage shows the large, bright Moon glowing above the main building of Moscow State University.

It marks the closest full Moon of the year and is so-named because it doesn’t fall within the usual pattern of supermoons; this year, there are 13 full Moons instead of 12, with two in August.

According to the Moscow Planetarium, the Moon entered its full phase on Wednesday night at 04:37 Moscow time (01:37 GMT).

The first full Moon of the month was observed on the night of August 1.
