The United Arab Emirates University in Abu Dhabi launched its training programme for those hoping to attend Russia's World Festival of Youth next month.

Footage taken on Tuesday features students attending lectures, networking and sharing their knowledge of Russian culture and landmarks.

Urwa Tariq, National Preparatory Committee representative of the World Festival of Youth in Russia, revealed that 279 candidates had been shortlisted across the UAE, with 26 UAE University students among those selected.

"We are preparing them to cover the topics of entrepreneurship, mental health and wellbeing, food and agriculture, sustainability, and artificial intelligence. So students will be representing different teams, different topics, plus they will be representing their cultures, traditions and norms," said the committee spokesperson.

Tariq went on to say that the organisation's members were looking forward to engaging with countries of the Gulf Co-operation Council (GCC) 'such as Qatar, Kuwait, Saudi [Arabia], Oman'.

In turn, the head of the National Preparatory Committee of the World Festival of Youth in Russia, Zahir Vally, said that the forum will provide an opportunity to develop personal qualities and build 'bridges for future co-operation' for students from all over the world.

"Attendance at the forum comports with the general mission of this country, specifically in higher education - the task of developing and promoting the future leaders, innovators and academics of this country. Attendance at the forum would give students an excellent opportunity to network - to connect with like-minded peers from all over the world," Vally added.

The World Festival of Youth is scheduled to run from March 1-7 2024 on the federal territory of Sirius. It aims to develop international youth co-operation and brings together up to 20,000 young people, with 160,000 applying from across more than 180 countries.

The Sirius 'Innovation Science and Technology Centre' is the first federal territory in Russia located on the Black Sea coast near the city of Sochi.
