Dozens of Christmas markets and fairs have been opened across Moscow as residents and visitors prepare to celebrate the New Year holidays.
Footage filmed on Friday shows people gathering and riding carousels at the fair as well as buying Christmas tree decorations in the GUM - Moscow’s main department store located right in the Red Square.
In addition to entertainment, Moscow's largest New Year market offers hundreds of souvenirs, delicious treats, Christmas decorations, warm mittens and Russian folk crafts.
According to the city mayor Sergei Sobyanin, 36 festival sites will be available for visitors from December 15 to January 8.
"When we opened the Strasbourg Fair in the Manezhnaya Square back in 2012, we could not have imagined that we had started Russia’s largest New Year and Christmas festival. It is a real New Year miracle, which is eagerly awaited by children and adults every year. Over the past ten years, it has been visited by about 100 million people," Sobyanin wrote in his blog.
The GUM’s New Year fair in Moscow runs from November 29 to February 29, 2024.
