Description

Chinese President Xi Jinping and Russian President Vladimir Putin realise that the United States is pursuing a 'policy of dual containment' against Moscow and Beijing, said Yuri Ushakov, Russian President's Foreign Policy Adviser, reporters on Thursday.

During an hour-long phone call on Thursday, the two presidents denounced US interference in the affairs of other countries.

"Our countries do not accept or tolerate political and military pressure from the United States," the politician claimed. "The key point is that the leaders of the two countries realise that the United States is practically fulfilling a policy of dual containment of both Russia and China and this matter was discussed as well."

According to Ushakov, the leaders also discussed current international and regional issues and coordinated their positions.

"The situation in North-East Asia was also touched upon, and during the exchange of views on the Taiwan issue, our president confirmed Russia's principled position of supporting China's One-China policy. The situation in Ukraine also received a rather brief mention," he added

Ushakov also said that Xi wished for a successful organisation of Russia's upcoming presidential elections in March.
