The Head of State congratulated all those involved in the event and noted that the launch of a new icebreaker played an important role in the country's economy.
"I am certain the figure will exceed 100 million tonnes [of cargo] in 2030. These are ambitious plans; their implementation will significantly contribute to the development of Russia's transport infrastructure and make the Northern Sea Route very appealing to both Russian carriers and our partners abroad," the president added.
The 'Chukotka' was built by order of the Rosatom State Corporation. According to the Baltic Shipyard press service, the universal nuclear icebreakers of the 22220 project are the largest and most powerful in the world. Their main task is ensuring year-round navigation in the western Arctic.
