Russians turned out to vote in the Russian presidential election in Yerevan and Almaty on Sunday.

Footage captures long queues of voters outside the Russian Embassy in Armenia and the Russian Consulate General in Kazakhstan. The video also depicted citizens registering and casting their ballots into a ballot box.

According to Russian Ambassador to Armenia Sergey Kopyrkin, five polling stations were operational within the republic. He mentioned that "two polling stations here in Yerevan, at our embassy and at the airbase, and three polling stations in Gyumri - these are the Consulate General and our Russian 102nd Military Base. Early voting took place in the Syunik region on March 11-13. Our colleagues travelled there. 844 people voted in total."

A voter emphasised the significance of participating in the elections, describing it as a 'direct duty' for Russians who were concerned about the country's future.

"How can it not be important if the fate of Russia is in our hands. I believe that it is a direct duty of those who love Russia, who are worried about it and who wish it only the best - to come and vote," he said.

Another voter, Nikolai Rusinov, who cast his vote in Almaty, said that he had familiarised himself with the manifestos of the candidates to inform his decision and 'chose the candidate, the one whose ideas I share'.

"I decided to come in person together with my family to express my civic stance. I think it is the duty of every citizen of the Russian Federation," the man added.

According to the Russian Central Election Commission, the voter turnout in the presidential election stood at 66.61 percent at the time of publication, including remote electronic voting.

Russia's presidential election takes place over three days on March 15-17, with early voting between February 25 and March 14.

The four candidates are Leonid Slutsky of the Liberal Democratic Party of Russia (LDPR), the Communist Party's Nikolai Kharitonov, Vladislav Davankov of the New People Party, and incumbent President Vladimir Putin, running as an independent candidate.
