The Russia’s Defence Ministry claimed that the Su-35S multi-role fighter jet crews accomplished a patrol mission in the Ukraine conflict zone on Saturday.
Footage released by the DefMin shows a Su-35S pilot appearing to conduct a combat flight before returning to home base.
"The aircrew is assigned to patrol the air borders of the Russian Federation and prevent enemy’s air assaults, including by unmanned aircraft. Their additional mission is to defeat radio-emission ground targets, such as enemy’s anti-aircraft missile systems," explained Alexander, a pilot.
He also compared the performance of the Russian Su-35S's to the F-16 type aircraft delivered to Ukraine by its Western allies.
"The aircrew is ready to confront F-16 aircraft. It has studied its strengths and weaknesses. The high-skilled pilots will accomplish the combat mission and defeat this aircraft. Moreover, the Su-35S fighter jet is more advanced than the F-16. It has a longer range than F-16. Plus, it fires long-range missiles," Alexander said.
In turn, the General Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces reported that Russia launched '77 airstrikes' on Ukrainian positions in Kharkov, Donetsk and Zaporozhye regions over the past 24 hours.
"The aviation and missile units and artillery of the [Ukraine's] Defence Forces delivered 12 strikes yesterday on areas where enemy personnel and airborne equipment were deployed, and also hit a radio warfare system, Osa anti-aircraft missile system and a helicopter landing site," the report stated.
Moscow launched a military offensive in Ukraine in late February 2022 after recognising the independence of the Donetsk and Lugansk People's Republics (DPR and LPR), claiming that Kiev had failed to guarantee their special status under the 2014 Minsk Agreements, and urging Ukraine to declare itself officially neutral and give assurances that it would never join NATO.
Kiev denounced the Russian action as an invasion. Ukraine's Volodymyr Zelensky imposed martial law throughout the country, announcing a general mobilisation, while the EU and the US imposed several rounds of sanctions on Moscow.
