Pakistan is interested in developing 'neighbourly relations' with Russia, President Asif Ali Zardari said during a meeting with Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexei Overchuk in Islamabad on Friday.

Footage shows Overchuk shaking hands with Zardari following his arrival. The pair can also be seen greeting other officials and talking.

"We and Russia are neighbours. There are so many powers that are too far away. Let's talk to the neighbourhood first. [...] I was happy to hear that the convoy has gone via Afghanistan to Russia, they have appreciated it. Let's start more of them. We can send you anything and everything you want," Zardari declared.

In turn, Overchuk expressed hope that Russia and Pakistan will continue to work together in several different sectors.

"The issues that we have touched have become a very wide range of issues, really: energy, connectivity, food security, education, science. All that gives us hope that we will continue working on this further," he stated.

The deputy chairman of the Government of the Russian Federation arrived in Islamabad on Wednesday. The politician’s trip program includes talks with Pakistan’s First Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Muhammad Ishaq Dar and Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif.
