03:42Supporters of the Socialist and Shor parties marched in front of the Moldovan Parliament building in Chisinau, during a rally against the new government on Thursday.
Footage shows protesters chanting 'police with us!’ and ’we are the people!', as well as holding placards with slogans such as 'we want you to sign bills and pay them!', 'we want early elections' and 'utility bills above pensions and salaries'.
A representative of the Bloc of Communists and Socialists Diana Karaman said that the recent change of power would not change anything in the republic.
"The authorities have allegedly decided to go along with the people with the resignation of the Gavrilita government, in fact, seeing the structure of this government, we understand that the ministers [remain] the same, so the policies and priorities will remain [the same]," Karaman sent.
One protester said she went to the rally to demand a better future.
"We just came to demand a good life for us. So that we can live normally, be able to pay [utility] bills, be able to buy gifts and everything else," the woman shared.
According to information posted on the official website of the Shor Party, the protesters in front of parliament demanded that the government pay their gas, heating and electricity bills for the three winter months in full.
The rally was accompanied by law enforcement officers. At the time of publication there was no official information about any detentions.
On Friday, Moldovan Prime Minister Natalia Gavrilita announced her resignation, which also removed the entire cabinet.
Moldovan President Maia Sandu accepted the resignation and on the same day nominated Secretary of the Supreme Security Council Dorin Recean as her candidate for PM.
The Action and Solidarity Party won a snap election in August 2021, forming the government led by Gavrilita.
