Description

Egypt appreciated Russia's role in international affairs, Foreign Minister Badr Abdel Ati said during talks with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov in Moscow on Monday.

"Despite the multiple crises that we are going through in the Middle East and Africa, which we are actively engaged in, I attached great importance to make this visit to Moscow given the Russian Federation's crucial role in global and regional affairs, not to mention the good relationships and friendship that bring us together," Abdel Ati noted.

The politician noted the co-operation in the fight against terrorism, as well as the new format of relations based on BRICS and thanked for Russia's assistance in Egypt's accession to the association.

Lavrov, for his part, said that the talks are planned to discuss full range of bilateral relations under the Comprehensive Partnership and Strategic Co-operation Treaty, as well as the international and regional agenda, including the situation in the Gaza Strip, Syria, Libya, Sudan and the Horn of Africa.

Since January 1, 2024, Russia has held the presidency of BRICS. Five countries have become full members of the organisation this year, including Egypt, Iran, UAE, Saudi Arabia and Ethiopia.
