Description

Russia’s Defence Ministry published footage on Wednesday of the Nevskoye village in the Lugansk People's Republic (LPR), after reporting that its troops had taken control of the area following an offensive by the 'Zapad' group of forces.

The video shows dozens of severely damaged buildings, as well as a soldier putting a Russian flag in the window of a house.

The Defence Ministry also reported that units of the 'Centre' group of forces had 'liberated the village of Krasny Yar' in the Donetsk and Lugansk People's Republics (DPR).

At the time of publication, the Ukrainian side had not commented on either statement.

The LPR is one of four regions, also including the Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR), Kherson and Zaporozhye, that President Vladimir Putin agreed to allow to join the Russian Federation, signing accession documents in September 2022.

According to Moscow, it followed referenda in which people living in those areas exercised their right to self-determination and requested to join Russia. Ukraine and its international allies condemned the move, calling it an annexation of Kiev’s sovereign territory.

The date and location of the footage released by the Russian Defence Ministry cannot be independently verified.
